I painted these portraits, free of charge, to honour and thank our NHS front line workers during the Covid-19 crisis. They are part of #portraitsfornhsheroes which was initiated on Instagram by the portrait artist, Tom Croft. It has become a global art project.
Many of these brave NHS staff were nominated discretely by their colleagues, friends and family as a surprise. Some of them contracted the virus at work and, thankfully, recovered. Others were fresh from university, straight into caring for Coronavirus patients without the usual rites of passage at graduation.
I continue to paint these portraits during the strange, quiet phases of lockdowns and restrictions.
